The Bay TrailDid you know there is a trail that starts right by Bay Elementary and goes all around the entire San Francisco Bay Area?
It's called the Bay Trail and it's awesome! The Bay Trail is currently 356 miles long but eventually it will be over 500 miles when it is completed! It will connect 46 different cities across the Bay Area. You can ride your bike, rollerblade, jog, or walk all along the trail. It travels along shorelines, winds through parks and open spaces, and goes over bridges. In addition to getting your exercise, the Bay Trail is a great place to sightsee nature, especially birds! San Leandro MarinaRight in our backyard is the San Leandro Marina. You can get to it from the Bay Trail (above) or by car.
The San Leandro Marina is a great place to get out in the open. There are paved trails to ride your bike or walk, large grass areas to play soccer games or frisbee, and even some exercise equipment to give your muscles a workout. |
Lake Chabot Regional Park
Feel like going for a hike? How about fishing? One of the best places close to San Lorenzo is at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley. There are plenty of dirt trails to explore. There is also a reservoir in the center of the park. If you walk/hike all the way around the water you have gone 8.6 miles! Be sure to bring plenty of water!
Besides hiking, there are lots of grass areas where you can picnic and play all sort of games. I believe they have a volleyball court and horseshoe pits as well. Otherwise bring your own gear and cones and play your own game. You can also go camping as well. Lots of fun at Lake Chabot!
